Timeless tales, gently retold

The wonder of the original, without the worry.

Many of the original fairytales and fables contain dark themes or frightening endings that aren’t quite right for a calm night’s sleep. Our Classics Reimagined collection takes these public-domain treasures and weaves your child directly into the story, keeping the magic while softening the ending for bedtime.

Why personalising fairytales matters

Classic fairytales are the foundation of our shared culture. They teach us about courage, kindness and the triumph of good. When a child hears their own name as the one climbing the beanstalk, or the one befriending a magical talking animal, something wonderful happens — they aren’t just listening, they are taking part.

This kind of storytelling helps children see themselves as capable of handling challenges. By placing them in roles of kindness or cleverness, we reinforce positive character traits in their imagination just before they drift off to sleep.

Updating the classics for a modern Irish home

As an Irish-based service, Sweetest Dreams understands the value of tradition. We treat these public-domain stories with the respect they deserve, keeping the iconic elements — the glass slipper, the golden thread, the enchanted mirror — while making sure the tone matches modern parenting values. Children can still learn the lessons of The Three Little Pigs without the anxiety of a truly frightening wolf.

Instead, we focus on the triumph of preparation and the warmth of a safe home — so parents can enjoy the nostalgia of their own childhood stories without worrying about nightmares.

FAQ

Questions parents often ask.

Are these stories based on the films I’ve seen?

No. Sweetest Dreams works strictly with the original public-domain fairytales and fables — such as those recorded by the Brothers Grimm, Hans Christian Andersen and Charles Perrault. Our retellings are original, created for a calm bedtime experience, and are entirely independent of any film studio adaptation.

How long does it take to read a story?

Most of our classic retellings are designed to be read in 5 to 10 minutes — enough narrative to be engaging, but soft enough at the close to encourage sleep.

Are the frightening parts of these stories included?

We specialise in soft endings. We keep the core plot and the sense of wonder, but soften the darker elements found in older versions of these tales — for example, in Little Red Riding Hood the focus is on a lovely walk and a safe visit, rather than any peril.

Can I include my child’s pet in a classic tale?

Yes. Your family pet can join the adventure too — imagine the family dog helping Puss in Boots, or the family cat appearing alongside your child in the Enchanted Fairy Glade.

What age group are these stories for?

Our classic collection suits children aged 2 to 8. Younger children enjoy the rhythm and the sound of their own name, while older children enjoy the richer vocabulary and the thrill of being the hero.
